[The video opens up to a Dratini egg. Standing around it are a few Pokémon: a Torchic, a Vulpix, and a Staravia. The trio seem curious about the egg, as if they've never seen it before.]

How do you get an egg to hatch?

[The question comes from somewhere off-screen. The video swivels to look up at Logan, who is frowning at the egg. He doesn't seem to notice the camera is pointed at him.]

I've had this one for well over a month. It doesn't even show signs of hatching.

[And the one Reaver got hatched quite some time ago! Clearly this is an exercise in Logan's shitty luck. Then again, looking at those unevolved Pokémon it's quite possible that he just sucks at this whole "Pokémon training" thing. Or a horrible combination of that and shit luck. That's probably it.]

I have kept the egg with me at all times. What else does it require?

[He hasn't even dropped it! Come on, that has got to count for something!]

I also have a question in regards to evolution. Is it possible for a Pokémon to simply decide not to evolve? I have two that should have evolved by now but haven't for... some reason I can't figure out.

[Logan turns a bit, realizing that the camera is focused on him, and gestures to the Torchic. He retrieves the 'Gear from the cameraman, a sulking Snivy, and gestures to it as well.]

Dratini eggs take a while to hatch, and some Pokémon just don't want to evolve. My Squirtle hasn't, my Deerling hasn't, and Ty says my Vanillite doesn't want to, either.

I'm not familiar with any of those species. Do you believe it's something individual Pokémon decide on, or something that the species itself tends to do?

[And if this egg takes longer than a month to hatch... he's not sure if he really wants to try training it.]

It's something they decide themselves.

Interesting. I suppose the only thing to do is try to convince them to evolve.

if they don't wanna evolve just yet, maybe you shouldn't try to force them.

They'll be more powerful once they evolve. Why shouldn't I evolve them?

Because they're not just tools and weapons. They've got personalities and emotions, too. Power isn't everything, and besides, they learn faster if they're unevolved.

[Logan tips his head a bit at that.]

They're our only means of protection in this world. I suppose it would be understandable if I had other Pokémon that could defend me, but as it stands all four of mine are too weak. I need them to evolve. They'll learn to adapt to the evolution.

[The ends justify the means, after all.]

Not always. They don't have to do what you say, if they don't wanna.

You're the trainer. They're supposed to obey you. They wouldn't be useful in battle if they didn't listen to you.

Supposed to, not have to.

If they can't do what they're supposed to do, why should I bother training them?

My goal is to get home, not pamper pets.

Being mean to your Pokémon won't get you home, y'know.

And being nice won't accomplish anything.

I dunno, getting all the badges didn't send people home, so maybe being nice'll do it.

I imagine most people would pamper their Pokémon before abusing them. I doubt it will return me home.

[Well, it was either "be nice and risk killing everyone" or "be mean and save as many people as possible"! He's been in this mindset for four years, don't mind him.]

And what makes you think being a huge jerk's gonna do it?

It will get me more results in battle. We've been given these creatures to fight. That sounds like the only way to return home.

Actually, not everyone gets them to fight. I'm a breeder, not a trainer. If fighting was how we get home, then everyone would be a trainer.

What are you supposed to do as a breeder? Breeding Pokémon hardly seems like a way to return home.

I raise Pokémon and sell the eggs when they come. I fight some, since you can't go two steps out of a town without a wild Pokémon attacking, but I don't go after the gyms or anything.

Do you find it interesting?

[He honestly can't imagine that being interesting at all...]

Yeah, actually! There's a lot of things that go into it, since the babies might be born knowing some moves their parents know, and not all Pokémon are compatible.

Well, I would certainly hope they're not all compatible. I assume there's no rumored way to get home through this?

Not as far as I can tell.
